Antalya Airport in southern Turkey set a new single-day passenger record on Saturday, July 15th, serving 207,840 travelers arriving on domestic and international flights. This surpasses the airport's previous busiest day on record.
Antalya has become a major tourist destination, attracting visitors with its scenic Mediterranean beaches and luxury resorts. The area has 2,575 hotels, of which 920 are approved by Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Total hotel room capacity in the region reaches 635,000 beds.
The new single-day record reflects Antalya's growing popularity as a vacation spot and the steady recovery of leisure travel after pandemic-related slowdowns. Airport officials and local leaders will likely continue efforts to expand capacity, hoping to welcome even more visitors in future peak seasons.
To accommodate rising passenger numbers, Antalya Airport is currently undergoing major expansion projects. A new international terminal is slated to open in 2023, which will increase the airport's annual passenger capacity from 30 million to 80 million. Additional taxiways, aircraft parking stands, and rapid exit taxiways are also being added to improve efficiency. Officials are confident these upgrades will allow the airport to continue setting new records in the years to come.
